Dr. Shawn Burger is a Manual Orthopaedic Therapist. He earned his master’s degree in physical therapy from Loma Linda University in 1998, and a transitional doctorate from The College of St. Scholastica. Dr. Burger is part owner of Burger Physical Therapy, Inc., a California corporation responsible for delivering rehab services through a continuum of outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities, and multiple acute hospital systems. He takes a keen interest in the role that soft tissues play in performance and function, with a personal history that includes Gua sha, Lomilomi, Graston Technique, and FAKTR (Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab). Each of these paradigms may be considered forms of Instrument Augmented Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM). Dr. Burger has been teaching IASTM since 2005, including 200 seminars both nationally and internationally to groups such as physical therapists, chiropractors, athletic trainers, massage therapists, as well as primary and orthopedic medical physicians. Currently, he is studying the role that IASTM plays within home exercise programs.
